Cognos 8 Go! is a family of access modes that allows users to easily view and interact with highly relevant Business Intelligence (BI) information using the application or device most convenient to them -- such as a web portal, search interface, MS Office or mobile device. This enables users to make informed business decisions anytime, anywhere.

The default Access Mode for Cognos 8 Business Intelligence is through a zero-footprint Web browser. Other Cognos 8 Go! access modes include:

  • Cognos Go! Search is a new BI search capability that changes the way BI is delivered to the enterprise by allowing knowledge workers to combine access to unstructured information with BI while existing BI users can more easily find the most relevant BI information.
  • Cognos 8 Go! Office: Formerly known as Cognos 8 Office Connection, Cognos 8 Go! Office lets users view, interact with, and refresh BI content within MS Office applications such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Cognos 8 Go! Mobile: Cognos is currently previewing a new technology that is expected to be available from the first half of 2007. Cognos 8 Go! Mobile will let users securely receive and interact with reports and analysis through their BlackBerry handheld devices.

What is Cognos 8 Go! Search?

Cognos 8 Go! Search is a BI search capability that changes the way BI is delivered to the enterprise. The powerful union of business intelligence and enterprise search is a major innovation for our industry. Through a simple keyword search, knowledge workers can now combine access to unstructured information such as documents, images, audio, video, and e-mails with the accurate, consistent and trusted BI information from Cognos 8 BI. The result is unprecedented insight into business performance.

Cognos 8 Go! Search also enables existing BI users to instantly find relevant, strategic enterprise information available through Cognos 8 Business Intelligence. With a familiar, browser-based search that ranks results based on user priorities, Cognos 8 Go! Search delivers BI users an intuitive and efficient way of quickly finding BI information presented in reports, dashboards, analyses, metric information, and events across the organisation.

What is Cognos 8 Go! Office?

Formerly known as Cognos 8 Office Connection, Cognos 8 Go! Office lets your users view, interact with, and refresh BI content within MS Office applications such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. With Cognos 8 Go! Office, you can:

  • Insert BI elements such as crosstabs, graphs, charts, and tables.
  • Automatically refresh BI content and maintain links to contextual information.
  • Create complex desktop reports such as briefing books and dashboards.

What is Cognos 8 Go! Mobile?

Cognos 8 Go! Mobile is a BI solution for executives and mobile workers that need immediate access and interaction with important information on their wireless device. Cognos 8 BI Go! Mobile extends the full value of Cognos 8 BI to information workers who require access to timely, personalised and secure information beyond their traditional office.

Cognos 8 Go! Mobile is the latest addition to the Cognos Go! family of access modes which enable users to easily view and interact with highly relevant BI information using the application or device most convenient to them.

The new Cognos 8 Go! Mobile solution extends the full value of Cognos 8 BI to a new class of users. Features include:

  • A purpose-built rich mobile client to provide optimised interactivity for BI on each mobile device,
  • Timely, personalised and secure information delivered direct to a users mobile device,
  • Extensively uses the C8 BI platform including single authoring and single security.

How is Cognos 8 Go! licensed/priced?

Pricing and licensing of Cognos Go! Mobile is still in development. Cognos Go! Office (formerly Cognos Office Connection) has been available since it was first released.

When will Cognos 8 Go! be available?

Cognos 8 Go! is a family of access modes (Office, Search and now Mobile). Cognos Go! Office is already available. Cognos Go! Search is available now. Cognos 8 Go! Mobile is expected to be available for Blackberry from the first half of 2007.

Which Cognos 8 BI interfaces allow access to Cognos 8 Go! Search?

Cognos 8 Go! Search is a fully web-based solution that users can access in three ways:

  1. Through the Cognos Connection portal.
  2. Directly from any Cognos 8 BI Capability.
  3. Through third party portals such as SAP NetWeaver Portal, Plumtree, IBM WebSphere BEA Weblogic or their own homegrown portals or via their existing enterprise applications by integration through the Cognos 8 BI SDK.

How can I get Cognos 8 Go! Office?

Currently, Cognos 8 Go! Office is available at no cost for licensed BI Consumers or higher, and for users who have PowerPlay User licenses. ReportNet and Cognos 8 BI Recipient and Remote Distribution users do not have rights to Cognos 8 Go! Office; however a Recipient to Consumer upgrade is available for users who require it.

Cognos 8 Go! Office now supports Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint (as of MR1) & Microsoft Word (as of MR2) and is available via Simpson Associates. Please contact your account manager for further details.
